Sam, who is now Flint's girlfriend, comes to Flint's aid when he tries to reverse the catastrophe as pancakes, hotdogs, banana splits, Spaghetti Twisters, and meatballs fall from the sky.

This story begins where "Madagascar" (2005) left off with the New York zoo animals–Alex the Lion (voice of Ben Stiller), Melman the Giraffe (voice of David Schwimmer), Marty the Zebra (voice of Chris Rock), and Gloria the Hippo (voice of Jada Pinkett Smith)–stranded in Madagascar. They have plans to fly back to Manhattan on a plane that has been reconstructed by their penguin pals. The plane takes off, but they only get as far as an African wildlife preserve where Alex reunites with his mom (voice of Sherri Shepherd) and dad (voice of Bernie Mac) who Alex has not seen since he was stolen from them when he was just a cub. Alex must now deal with his dad's rival Makunga (voice of Alec Baldwin), and the zoo animals use their diversity to overcome all obstacles as they come in contact with their wild counterparts in this story showing the value of distinctiveness being a virtue.

But Shrek wants his privacy and makes a deal with Lord Farquaad to take Donkey (voice of Eddie Murphy) with him to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona (voice of Cameron Diaz) who will then be exchanged for Shrek's sole rights to the swamp. "Shrek" was the first winner of an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

But, Fiona and her mother Queen Lillian (voice of Julie Andrews) get help from Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty in their valiant effort to retake the kingdom.

However, there are a few surprises in store for Sinbad; one is Marina (voice of Catherine Zeta-Jones) who has stowed away on Sinbad's ship and intends to convince Sinbad to save her betrothed Proteus' life by finding the missing "Book of Peace.".
