  An all-star cast, Jim Henson's special effects, and good performances make this made-for-TV miniseries a joy to watch and is probably the most faithful retelling of the Jonathan Swift social satire. Lemuel Gulliver (Ted Danson) returns home to Mary (Mary Steenburgen) after a long absence and acts out his wild adventures that include the tiny Lilliputians, the huge Brobdingnags, the Laputas (the no-common-sense scientists), and the intelligent horses surrounded by wild humans.

  This is a good film, with an unerring eye for detail, adapted from Evelyn Waugh's novel. Tony (James Wilby) and Brenda (Kristin Scott Thomas) live on their estate, Hetton Abbey, in the 1930s. John Beaver (Rupert Graves) spends the weekend with them, and, after he and Brenda enter into a love affair, Tony is oblivious to what is happening. The tragedy of their son's death brings matters to a head, and Brenda demands a divorce. When Tony learns that the divorce will cost him Hetton Abbey, he leaves Brenda with nothing and escapes on a scientific expedition to Brazil.

  Based on David Sobol's 1995 biography, this story centers on two men: John Harrison (Michael Gambon) who invented the marine chronometer during the 18th century and Rupert Gould (Jeremy Irons) who was obsessed with restoring Harrison's chronometer in the 20th century. Both of their stories are told as Gould battles British bureaucracy in order to restore the chronometer for use by the modern-day Navy.

Matters worsen when Lilia becomes pregnant and dies in childbirth–leaving the Herriton family (Rupert Graves and Judy Davis) determined to take custody of the baby.
