  Set in the era just before the French Revolution, Jeanne de la Motte Valois (Hilary Swank), sets out to regain her family's confiscated wealth. First, she marries Count Nicholas de la Motte (Adrien Brody) who has access to the royal court, and, through his contacts, she schemes to steal a valuable necklace and use it to buy back the family's estate.

  Alfie (Jude Law) plies his trade as a NYC limousine chauffeur while enjoying trysts with a variety of women–including party girl Nikki (Sienna Miller), wealthy Liz (Susan Sarandon), and Lonette (Nia Long) who is the girlfriend of his best friend Marlon (Omar Epps). Alfie's girlfriend Julie (Marisa Tomei) is aware of what is going on and is not at all pleased with Alfie's lifestyle. But, Alfie continues his sexual affairs until he suffers a health scare and questions what love is all about.

When she eventually must choose between work and her growing love for the baby, she moves to Vermont and starts a successful baby food company. Wedding consultant Franck Eggelhoffer (a hilarious Martin Short) is called in, but problems for George continue as he gets closer to the day when Annie will move on to her new life with Brian and away from George.
