Jimminy Cricket (voice of Cliff Edwards) is appointed to be Pinocchio's "conscience." This proves a difficult task when Pinocchio lies, skips school, and heads to Pleasure Island. But, when Pinocchio learns that Gepetto has been swallowed by a whale, he risks his life and saves Gepetto–proving that he deserves to be Gepetto's son. "When You Wish Upon a Star" won an Academy Award for Best Song.
