  This lavish Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, adapted from the stage, has become a classic. At first, Anna and the King do not get along, but when they perform their dance number to "Shall We Dance?" there is more than a small hint of romance. Brynner won an Oscar for his portrayal of the King. The film won four other Oscars and was nominated for an additional four, including Best Picture, Actress (Kerr), and Director.

  American newsman Stephen Fitzgerald (Tyrone Power) is visiting Ireland when he meets a leprechaun, Horace (Cecil Kellaway), and later confronts him with his pot of gold. After Stephen tells the leprechaun that he will not take his gold, the leprechaun is obligated to return the favor. The leprechaun follows Stephen back to New York and tries to clear the way for a romance with sweet Irish colleen Nora (Anne Baxter) who Stephen had met in Ireland. But, Stephen is now seeing the daughter, Frances (Jayne Meadows), of his corrupt boss, D.C. Augur (Lee J. Cobb). When Nora visits New York and sees Stephen and Frances together, she returns to Ireland. With the leprechaun's guidance, Stephen denounces Auger, quits his job, and leaves for Ireland to find Nora.

Jim tells Dr. Livesey (Otto Kruger) and Squire Trelawney (Nigel Bruce) about the map, and the three of them book passage on a ship to recover the treasure. But problems lie ahead because among the ship's crew are pirates, including Long John Silver (Wallace Beery), who are plotting to get their hands on Jim's treasure map.
