Lorre is great, and the musical score and special effects are good, especially for the time. Occasionally slow, but still a horror classic of sorts.

Songs of note in this celebrated film include "You're Just in Love" and "It's a Lovely Day Today." An Oscar was received for Best Musical Score.

Gunnar is aided by his fiancee, Karen Stensgard (Ann Sheridan), whose father, Martin (Walter Huston), is the town physician. However, the town is divided on how to handle the situation, and Gunnar and Karen know that their job will not be easy.
