While in the process of divorcing her abusive husband Robert (Jameson Parker) Linda (Cheryl Ladd) learns that he has hired a hit man to kill her as a means of saving his reputation and keeping custody of the children. There is one problem: Robert's hit man is really an FBI agent, and Linda must pretend to have been murdered so that the FBI can trap Robert.
