Curley's wife Mae (Betty Field) flirts with Lennie, and, while consoling him over the death of a pet rabbit, Lennie accidentally strangles Mae, which leads to a tragic end.

Now, in1865, amidst post-Civil War tensions, there are conflicts between the Kiowa and the Texas ranchers, and the Kiowa tribe tries to retrieve Rachel from the Zachary family.
