Jessie is very rough around the edges, and Ian sets out to polish her roughness by taking her to the theater and encouraging her to read. Maurice, on the other hand, sees romance in Jessie who is more than 50 years his junior. Although left impotent by prostrate surgery, Maurice employs a sly courtship that brings out the good things in Jessie, and they develop a bond.
