Murders take place, and when Andy tells people that Chucky did it, no one pays attention. Andy's mother Karen (Catherine Hicks) asks Detective Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon) to investigate. Because Mike is romantically interested in Karen, he agrees even though he does not believe Andy's stories–until Chucky starts to strangle him. Sequels follow.

Then, it makes sense that when Al Capone (F. Murray Abraham) is released from prison several years later and wants someone to recover the millions he has stashed away in the bank, he would turn to John. Of course Capone holds Dillinger's family hostage to ensure the heist is carried out.
