Struggling novelist Carolyn (Kim Basinger) has gambled away her husband Tom's (Ray Liotta) money at the casino and has befriended its magician Walter (Danny DeVito). Meanwhile, Clyde (Forest Whitaker) owes bookie Victor (Tim Roth) big gambling debts and has been threatened with death if he doesn't get his basketball star brother Godfrey (Nick Cannon) to shave points off a big game. Then there is Detective Bruner (Kelsey Grammer) who is on the trail of that bookie Victor. The lives of these gamblers weave together onto a tragic course as the big college basketball game draws near.
