  This film won Academy Awards for Best Picture and Director and is an excellent production of Charles Dickens' story set to music. The plot involves the orphan Oliver Twist (Mark Lester) who is befriended by the Artful Dodger (Jack Wild) and joins a gang of thieves led by Fagan (Ron Moody). Despite his circumstances, Oliver does find friends and a "family" within the gang. Popular songs include "As Long as He Needs Me" and "Consider Yourself." A total of six Oscars were received, and there were six other nominations, including Best Actor (Ron Moody) and Supporting Actor (Jack Wild).

  This film adaptation of the Graham Greene novel features Alec Guinness as British expatriate Jim Wormold who, while living in pre-revolutionary Cuba, is recruited as a spy by British intelligence agent Hawthorne (Noel Coward). Wormold invents information on agents and events for which he is paid, and he uses his ill-begotten money for his daughter Milly (Jo Morrow) to appease her expensive tastes. The crooked police chief, Capt. Segura (Ernie Kovacs), believes that Wormold is truly a spy, and he finds Millie attractive. Wormold's reputation accelerates, and–in spite of his false reports–he actually performs a service for Britain.

An Oscar was presented for Best Cinematography, and Carol Reed was nominated for Best Director.

  This excellent film follows a group of recruits as they evolve from civilians into a well-trained team of soldiers. They understand why the training was necessary when they are sent to North Africa during World War II. Director Reed had joined the Army and served in the role of making documentaries. Likewise, David Niven, an officer, was a motivator for this film.
