Set in the 1930s, a French woman, Eliane (Catherine Deneuve), owns a plantation in Indo-China. Eliane is raising young Princess Camille (Linh Dan Pham) in her own home. Troubles arise when Camille falls in love with Eliane's lover, Jean-Baptiste (Vincent Perez), who is on duty as a Naval officer in the area. An Academy Award for Best Foreign Film was received for this fine effort.
