Franco Arno (Karl Malden) was once a newsman, but now he is blind and writes crossword puzzles for a living. One night, he hears a conversation between two men sitting outside a medical institute in which genetic experiments are performed, and that night an institute guard is killed. More murders ensue, and Franco teams with reporter Carlo Giordani (James Franciscus) to get the real story about what is going on at the institute.
