Two young boys, Jack (Robert J. Steinmiller) and Dylan (Miko Hughes), have moved to Oakland, California, where their widowed father, John (Danny DeVito), has been hired to host Saturday night horror films. John becomes obsessed with his job and finds little time for Jack and Dylan. Matters reach the crisis point after John attacks their neo-Nazi neighbor Norman Strick (Gary Sinise) on his TV show, and Norman kidnaps Dylan.
