  Director Lubitsch's and John Barrymore's final silent film before moving into talkies, this tale, based on a novel by Jakob Christopher Beer, is set in the Swiss Alps (filmed in the Canadian Rockies). A couple, each of whom is in a loveless marriage, carries on a secret romance; but when the woman's husband is murdered, they are on the run. A real tearjerker, but well told.

Faust makes the deal and regains his youth. Now, Faust courts Gretchen (Camilla Horn), dishonors her, and then casts her aside. Will Faust find redemption?

  Based on Moliere's satirical play, this is the tale of Tartuffe (Emil Jannings), a religious hypocrite who uses his skills to rip off believers. He is now on the verge of talking wealthy Orgon (Werner Krauss) into handing over Orgon's daughter, whom Tartuffe loves, AND Orgon's land and money in exchange for divine absolution. But he doesn't quite get away with it.

  Set during the Russian Revolution, this is the story of a peasant, Ivan Markov (John Barrymore), who rises to the rank of Lieutenant in the final days of Czarist Russia. He is scorned by the "higher-class" officers and by Princess Tamara (Camilla Horn), a general's daughter. He is imprisoned and stripped of his rank after a trumped-up charge, and released during the Revolution. Ivan quickly rises in the ranks, and now the tables are turned as the Princess and her family's fate depends on Ivan's mercy.
