  D'Leh (Steven Strait) and Tic'Tic (Cliff Curtis) travel with fellow tribesmen across deserts, mountains, and jungles that harbor wooly mammoths and saber-toothed tigers in an attempt to rescue Evolet (Camilla Belle) who, years ago, was kidnapped by marauders. Along the way, they are joined by members of other tribes whose members have also been taken prisoner by the marauders. By journey's end, they uncover the truth: their captured tribe members are serving as slaves for a lost civilization whose rulers are using them to build lofty pyramids. Now, D'Leh faces the fact that he is not only rescuing Evolet but all of civilization as well when he fights for the future of mankind.

While Rose is intimidated by the presence of Kathleen and the boys, Jack sees the new housing project as a direct infringement on his efforts to keep the environment pure. The writer and director of this film, Rebecca Miller, is the wife of Daniel Day-Lewis, and his father was playwright Arthur Miller.

  Life in the Southern California town of Hillside may appear peaceful, but underneath lives are crumbling. As in the case of video game Chumscrubber who walks around carrying his head in his hands, Hillside residents often do not have their heads screwed on right when it comes to raising their children and communicating with neighbors. When Dean's (Jamie Bell) friend commits suicide, Dean is bullied to locate his missing drugs and hand them over. The ploy fails, and a kidnapping is opted for, but the wrong child is kidnapped. Left to solve the problem are parents who appear incapable of dealing with the situation, and the Chumscrubber comes to the fore.
