As the title suggests, this film features explosion after explosion until a good part of Boston is "blown away." Dove (Jeff Bridges), former IRA sympathizer, joins the city's police bomb squad when Gaerity (Tommy Lee Jones) turns up in Boston. An old associate of Dove, Gaerity begins setting off a series of explosions, and it becomes Dove's mission to stop the destruction.

It is the sixth century, and a ferocious dragon is terrorizing the English countryside where the king sacrifices virgins in exchange for peace. The villagers summon wizard Ulrich (Ralph Richardson) to come to their aid. Along with his young apprentice Galen (Peter MacNicol) and beautiful Valerian (Caitlin Clarke), Ulrich sets out to slay the dragon. But, Ulrich's abilities fail him, and it rests on Galen to confront the dragon and enter into a vicious battle. The special effects are great.
