  Insurance salesman Walter Neff (Fred MacMurray) is persuaded to kill his lover Phyllis' (Barbara Stanwyck) husband (Tom Powers) in order to cash in his insurance policy. The catch is that if the husband is killed by a moving vehicle, the policy will pay double. But, they have not counted on tenacious insurance investigator Barton Keyes (Edward G. Robinson) who is assigned to the case. Great performances by all. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards–including Best Picture, Actress (Stanwyck), and Director.
