This film is based on events surrounding the 1971 Madison, Indiana, hydro-plane regatta during which retired racer Jim McCormick (James Caviezel) rallied the town for support after he accepted the offer for Madison to host the regatta, promised $50 thousand (which he didn't have) in earnest money, and managed the "Miss Madison" crew. Originally shown at the Sundance Film Festival in 2001, the film didn't receive public release until 2005.
