  I love this movie. The story is true as are the characters. It's hard to believe that this woman who was told she didn't qualify to be a missionary to China could accomplish such a mission. She was truly a great woman. Considered an ugly duckling by some, she still manages to find love with a Eurasian soldier.

But, there are deserters–including his assistant Esclavier (Alain Delon) who is frustrated with the war and Lt. Ben Mahidi (George Segal) who joins the rebels. Along the way, Raspeguy becomes romantically involved with Countess De Clairefons (Michele Morgan) who promises to marry him if he attains the rank of General. Romance and violence are part of this war story.

Meanwhile, Clouseau's boss Chief Inspector Dreyfus (Herbert Lom) gets fed up with Clouseau's ineptness and plots to get rid of him once and for all.

Now, Clouseau goes incognito to Hong Kong, and Douvier's ex-girlfriend Simone Legree (Dyan Cannon), who seeks revenge against Douvier, helps Clouseau solve the case.
