Alfie impregnates his common-law wife Gilda (Julia Foster) and then has an affair with Lily (Vivien Merchant) who also becomes pregnant by Alfie, and he arranges an abortion. All the while, Alfie engages in sexual affairs with others, including wealthy Ruby (Shelley Winters) and young Siddie (Millicent Martin). Even though disillusioned at the end of the film, Alfie is still "flitting." Academy Award nominations were received for Best Picture, Actor, Supporting Actress (Merchant), Writing, and Song.
