  Based on Dan Jenkins' novel, this is a musical/comedy about Texas barmaid Juanita Huchins (Lesley Ann Warren) who dreams of making a name for herself in the music business. Juanita's life has been filled with "men" problems, and she is struggling financially to raise her daughter Sandy (Julie Roberts). Then, her old high school boyfriend, Slick Henderson (Peter Coyote), comes back into Juanita's life and convinces her to write songs and publish them.

He does get arrested again but escapes and has plastic surgery to disguise himself. J. Edgar Hoover (Vince Edwards) is determined to capture him, and Dillinger is betrayed by his girlfriend Billie's (Sherilyn Fenn) landlady, which leads to the Feds ending his life outside Chicago's Biograph Theater. Look quickly for Lawrence Tierney–who played Dillinger 1945 film–as a sheriff gunned down by Dillinger's gang.
