In this remake of the 1976 film, Billy Bob Thornton takes on the role of the grizzled, Little League coach Morris Buttermaker who works with a conglomeration of misfit kids and turns them into a championship team. No longer a Major League baseball player, Buttermaker has been spending most of his time with booze and women–until Liz Whitewood (Marcia Gay Harden) arranges for him to take over the team. While working with his bickering players, Buttermaker could, but doesn't, give them inspirational lessons, but they do achieve a great comeback.
