| | Sherlock with tongue in cheek tops many staid version | HollywoodFan777 10/25/2011 | | Classic Tongue and Cheek Holmes, more fun than the somber 'dramatic' versions. Roger and Patrick MacNee were a lark to watch and a delight. The director Boris Segal was masterly at playing the Period and the Humor, and those who didn't get it lost out. Maria Grimm and Roger Moore had a wonderful chemistry and some of the better high jinks dialogue and swooning scene, and John Huston, though campy at times played Moriarty to the Max. This cast of legendary stars with Charlotte Rampling's elegance and Jackie Coogan's years of perfection knitted a remarkably cohesive 'send-up' that only die-hard Holmes followers might complain a bit over, but I can continue to adore all of Sherlock's films while keeping a warm spot for this eclectic and charming version. |
