Although both work for a Manhattan real-estate firm, brothers Andy (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and Hank (Ethan Hawke) desperately need money. Their solution: rob their parents' (Albert Finney and Rosemary Harris) jewelry store. They can take the jewels and sell them, and their parents can collect on the insurance. Thus, nobody loses. But as the story continues, flashbacks reveal a multitude of family problems–including Hank sleeping with Andy's wife (Marisa Tomei)–and the planned robbery is destined to trigger the family's final collision course.
