Academy Award nominations were received for Best Picture, Actor, Director, Supporting Actor (Jaye Davidson), and Film Editing. An Oscar was won for Best Writing. Outstanding acting by all.

It's 2196 and John Canyon (Dennis Hopper), an independent trucker who is constantly hassled by the big corporations and has his profits taken by his corrupt boss, delivers genetically altered square pigs (for ease of stacking). He agrees to haul a secret cargo bound for Earth, and takes off with two cohorts (Stephen Dorff and Debi Mazar). Engine troubles, space pirates, and a cargo that is an army of robots to take over the Earth add to the "fun". OK, but clearly B-class.
