  Patrons of the Sad Cafe are residents of a small Southern town. This story is set during the Great Depression and revolves around the activities of Miss Amelia (Vanessa Redgrave) who owns the Sad Cafe and is a moonshiner. Eccentric misfits drift in and out of her cafe–including her ex-husband, a recent convict (Keith Carradine).
