  This version of Leo Tolstoy's 1878 novel was filmed entirely in Russia and stars Sophie Marceau as the beautiful wife and mother Anna Karenina who leaves her passionless marriage to Karenin (James Fox) when she falls in love with Count Vronsky (Sean Bean). Karenin will not grant her a divorce–even when Anna becomes pregnant with Vronsky's child–and depression and suicidal thoughts set in when Anna finds that happiness is elusive.
