It tells the story that includes battles in the 1500s between the Polish and Cossacks. Harry Baur takes on the role of warrior Taras Bulba. The story was remade in 1962 as "Taras Bulba."

Doris Day sings "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be Will Be)," which won an Oscar. Previously made in 1934 by Hitchcock 1934.

Tom also helps with a romance between the Forest Queen and forester Woody (Alan Young). Good acrobatic dances by Tamblyn. The film won the Academy Award for Best Special Effects.
