  Life in the Court of Versailles circa 1783 is the setting for this film about the provincial Ponceludon de Malavoy (Charles Berling) who wants to obtain funds from King Louis XVI to drain a swamp near his home. He quickly learns that using his wits is the key to getting the ear of the king at Versailles, and he finally gains acceptance.
