  Leonora Eames (Barbara Bel Geddes) is a model who marries millionaire Smith Ohlrig (Robert Ryan) and moves into his luxurious home where boredom and loneliness set in. They fight, separate, get back together, and then separate again. Leonora gets a job as a receptionist for sympathetic psychiatrist Dr. Quinada (James Mason), she does not tell Quinada that she is married, and they fall in love. Complications–including pregnancy–ensue as Leonora tries to come to terms with the difficulties in her life.

Meanwhile, Nicky falls in love with singer Lily Racquel (Shirley Ross) and risks losing everything but takes advantage of one last chance to gain success. The music includes "The Lady's in Love with You," "Some Like It Hot," and "Heart and Soul."
