Tim, Chris, and Rand (Matthew Lillard, Michael Vartan, and Randall Batinkoff) are college roommates and have enjoyed partying so much that their low grades may hamper acceptance into graduate school. So, when Tim and Chris find out that a grade of 4.0 will be given if a roommate commits suicide, Tim convinces Chris that they should kill Rand so they can get the grades they need. After Rand disappears but his body is not found, and Rand's girlfriend commits suicide in despair, it becomes clear that there is more going on than meets the eye.

Moments before her wedding to Henry (Paul Rudd), Kate (Eva Longoria Parker) is killed after an accident involving an ice sculpture. Henry has been visiting Ashley, who is a psychic, hoping that she can snap him out of his depression over losing Kate. Ashley is the only one who can see Kate who keeps showing up at the most inopportune times, stopping at nothing, in her effort to keep Henry and Ashley apart.
