  Bank cashier Lafe Kildare (Hooper Atchley) has been stealing from the bank, and when the bank president Jim Fremont (Edward Hearn) begins to suspect Lafe, Lafe kills Jim and becomes the bank president. Jim's brother Curt (Hoot Gibson) arrives in town posing as a cowardly drifter to investigate his brother's murder. He does his investigating at night, posing as Mexican bandit El Capitan in order to solve the murder, which he does, bringing Lafe to justice. Meanwhile, he wins the affections of a rancher's daughter, Mary Lou Moran (Sally Eilers–Hoot Gibson's wife at the time).

  Tex Haines (Tex Ritter) and his Texas Ranger sidekicks Dave Wyatt (Dave O'Brien) and Panhandle Perkins (Guy Wilkerson) hunt down money hidden by Charley Gray (Charles King) after a gang heist years earlier. Charley is about to be released from prison, so Panhandle is planted in the prison with the mission of finding out from Charley where the loot is hidden. While Panhandle is sleeping, Charley draws a map leading to the gold on the bottom of Panhandle's foot. When they are released from prison, Charley forces Panhandle to go with him back to his old gang, and Charley, unaware of the map on his foot, becomes an important player in retrieving the loot. Plenty of songs and humor.

He joins Confederate soldiers and gains their confidence in order to discover the horse shipment routes and find the spy involved. The spy turns out to be Lt. Col. John Hudson (Paul Kelly). A battle ensues, Kearney is cleared, returns to duty, and later heads up the new U.S. Army Intelligence Department.

Buck uses Chinese girl Ming Toy (Olive Young) as a decoy, and the robbery is pulled off. All goes well, until Ming Toy shows up, returns the money to Ed, and names Buck as the conspirator.
