Young psychopath Jonathan Corliss (Matt Dillon) is dating Dorothy (Sean Young), the daughter of wealthy Thor Carlsson (Max von Sydow). Dorothy becomes pregnant and will lose her inheritance when Thor learns about the pregnancy. Jonathan solves the problem by murdering Dorothy. He meets Dorothy's sister Ellen (also played by Young), marries her, and gets a good position in Thor's company.
