  After falling in love with governess Henriette Deluzy-Desportes (Bette Davis), the Duc de Praslin (Charles Boyer) murders his wife. More tragedy follows with the suicide of the Duc; but the governess still finds happiness in this classic tale set in Paris in the mid-1800s. Academy Award nominations included Best Picture and Supporting Actress (Barbara O'Neil).

  When a beautiful–but psychotic–rich woman, Diane (Jean Simmons), plots to kill her stepmother Catherine (Barbara O'Neil), ambulance driver Frank (Robert Mitchum) unwittingly becomes involved in the crime. Frank is hired as the family chauffeur, and Diane fixes the car so that it goes over a cliff, but the accident kills not only Catherine but Diane's father Charles (Herbert Marshall) as well. Frank and Diane are now charged with murder. In an effort to sway the jury, Diane's lawyer (Leon Ames) suggests Diane and Frank marry, they do, and are acquitted. After being freed, Frank realizes that he cannot be married to a murderess and tells Diane that he is leaving her. Not a good move because Diane now puts the car into reverse, they fall over a cliff, and hurtle to their deaths.

  Based on Margaret Mitchell's popular novel, this story takes place during the Civil War. When southern belle Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) learns that her beloved Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howard) is going to marry his cousin Melanie (Olivia de Havilland), she is crushed. Despite warnings from her faithful servant Mammy (Hattie McDaniel), Scarlett accosts Ashley at a barbeque. Charleston profiteer Rhett Butler (Clark Gable) listens in on the confrontation and falls in love with Scarlett. Their affair begins, and as Scarlett flirts, cries, struggles, and dances with Rhett, she manages to survive the changes brought on as the South fights to maintain plantation life. Ashley to Scarlett: "Isn't it enough that you've gathered every other man's heart today? You've always had mine. You cut your teeth on it." This film won nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Director, Actress (Leigh), and Supporting Actress (McDaniel). It was also nominated for five other awards.
