Don't Torture a Duckling   1972     2 and a half stars    N/R, 102 min.
Genre: Foreign / Thriller
Director: Lucio Fulci
Cast: Barbara Bouchet, Tomas Milian, Florinda Bolkan, Irene Papas, Marc Porel, Vito Passeri, Georges Wilson, Antonello Campodifiori, Andrea Aureli, Franco Balducci, Rosalia Maggio

After young boys are murdered in a quiet Sicilian town, various people are accused–including a magician (Florinda Bolkan) who practices voodoo and visitor Patrizia (Barbara Bouchet). Villagers take matters into their own hands, and Patrizia teams with newsman Andrea (Tomas Milian) to find out what's going on. Good, with some brutal scenes but not like the gory Fulci films to follow.

Sex and the Single Girl   1964     2 and a half stars    N/R, 114 min.
Genre: Comedy / Romance
Director: Richard Quine
Cast: Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood, Henry Fonda, Lauren Bacall, Mel Ferrer, Edward Everett Horton, Howard St. John, Stubby Kaye, Fran Jeffries, Otto Kruger, Barbara Bouchet, Leslie Parrish, Larry Storch, Max Showalter, Helen Kleeb

This satire on sexual mores is more-or-less based on the Helen Gurley Brown book by the same name. Helen Brown (Natalie Wood) is a 23-year-old therapist who advises women about sex. Bob Weston (Tony Curtis) is a magazine editor planning to write a story in which he will accuse Helen of being a virgin. But everything changes when they meet, and romance is definitely in the air–despite the fact that Bob is married–although maybe not legally–to Sylvia (Lauren Bacall). Problems ensue, which all lead to a wild taxi chase on the freeway where things are finally sorted out.

Recreated from the Broadway hit, this film is good entertainment. It is the story of dance-hall hostess Charity (Shirley MacLaine), a woman with a "past," who Oscar (John McMartin) loves but has trouble reconciling with her lifestyle.
