Stand-up comedian George Simmons (Adam Sandler) learns that he suffers from a rare form of leukemia and has less than one year to live. Meanwhile, George tries to reunite with his former girlfriend Laura (Leslie Mann), but her husband Clarke (Eric Bana) does not agree to the plan. Now, George learns that his disease has gone into remission, and he reevaluates his lifestyle and decides to find what will really give his life meaning.

Dysfunctional Ronnie Barnhardt (Seth Rogen) heads up the mall security at Forest Ridge Mall and lusts after salesgirl Brandi (Anna Faris). When a flasher in the parking lot exposes himself to Brandi, Ronnie comes to her aid hoping to make points with her. The flasher enters the mall and start flashing, which causes the mall's directors to call in the police. Detective Harrison (Ray Liotta) arrives on the scene, and pathetic Ronnie sees his appearance as a chance to show the police department that he should be hired as a police officer if he solves the case before Harrison. And the contest begins with Ronnie constantly getting in the way of the investigation.
