Young North Africans–Said Otmari (Jamel Debbouze), Yassir (Samy Naceri), Messaoud Souni (Roschdy Zem), and Abdelkader (Sami Bouajila)–enlist in the French Army in 1943 to help liberate their homeland from the Nazis during World War II. Despite obvious racism, they loyally go to Italy, Provence, and Alsace on tours of duty to defeat the Nazi death machine. An Oscar nomination was received for Best Foreign Language Film.
