He reads about a robbery in which $209,000 was stolen and two robbers were slain but still keeps his secret cache hidden. Problems ensue when the third robber, Carl Farrow (Dick Contino), returns to the scene and finds the case missing. Now, both the police and Farrow set out to find the stolen money

  The story of Eleanor and Franklin D. Roosevelt (Jane Alexander and Edward Herrmann) from Franklin's youth to his election to the presidency is based on Joseph P. Lash's Pulitzer Prize-winning book. Told in flashback while Eleanor prepares for Franklin's funeral, scenes include their lives growing up as cousins and then their marriage. Problems in the marriage are reflected on–including Franklin's domineering mother Sara (Rosemary Murphy) and his affair with Lucy Mercer (Linda Kelsey)–and good times are remembered as well. This made-for-TV spectacular won 11 Emmys, including Outstanding Special and Best Director, as well as one for Rosemary Murphy. A sequel that covers the presidential years follows.

  This sequel has most of the same cast and is every bit as good as the first one. It covers FDR's and Eleanor's (Edward Herrmann and Jane Alexander) years in the White House from 1933 to 1945. Told in flashback as Eleanor attends Franklin's funeral, the stories include Eleanor working for social reform, coming to the aid of polio-stricken Franklin, and learning how to deal with Franklin's domineering mother Sara (Rosemary Murphy). The stories also reflect on FDR pulling the country out of the Depression and his "Day of Infamy" speech in which he declares war on Japan. This sequel received Emmys for Best Director and Outstanding Special.

  Lt. Colonel Owen Thursday (Henry Fonda) is annoyed because he has been sent out West to command Fort Apache in Arizona after serving valiantly during the Civil War. Michael O'Rourke (Ward Bond) discover the bodies of mutilated soldiers murdered by the Apaches, Thursday decides to stir up the Indians for his own fame and fortune. One of his officers, Capt. Kirby York (John Wayne), tries to teach him the realities of co-existing with the Indians and tells him that the real problem is not the Apaches, but, instead, it is the corrupt Indian agents promoting the problems. York's words go unheeded, and Thursday leads his men into a disastrous situation after which he is labeled a hero by the press.

Blanche had lived in Jane's shadow as a child but gained stardom as an adult in the film world while Jane's career faded. Blanche enjoyed her success until a drunken Jane caused a car accident that crippled Blanche and left her wheelchair-bound. Now, Jane works with pianist Edwin Flagg (Victor Buono) in hopes of finally gaining stardom as an adult. At the same time, she goes crazy and plots to kill Blanche. A good thriller/black comedy. Academy Award nominations went to Davis (Best Actress) and Buono (Best Supporting Actor).
