A drifter, John Westin (John Wayne), is hired by Marshal George Higgins (George "Gabby" Hayes) to investigate a gang that is cheating and then killing rodeo champions. When John participates in a rodeo and wins the first competitions, the gang's leader Spike Barton (Edward Peil Sr.) wants him to quit, but John refuses and then wins the competition. John deposits his winnings in the local bank, and Barton plans a bank robbery. But, John works on a tip, comes to the rescue, and foils Barton's plot.
