Liam 2000 R, 90 min. Genre: Drama
Director: Stephen Frears Cast: Ian Hart, Claire Hackett, Anthony Borrows, David Hart, Megan Burns, Anne Reid, Russell Dixon, Julia Deakin, Andrew Schofield, Bernadette Shortt
Most of this story is told through the perspective of seven-year-old Liam (Anthony Borrows) whose Irish immigrant father (Ian Hart) lost his job at a Liverpool dock yard during the 1930s' Depression when dire economic times exacerbated problems between Jews and Catholics. The Jewish Samuels family, for example, owned the dock yard at which many Irish Catholics were working. Liam's sister, Teresa (Megan Burns), tried to solve the family's financial plight by finding work at the Samuels' estate, where she now finds herself serving as a look-out for Mrs. Samuels (June Gurnett) who is enjoying an illicit affair right under her husband's nose.

Director: Alex Cox Cast: Christopher Eccleston, Eddie Izzard, Derek Jacobi, Diana Quick, Andrew Schofield, Anthony Booth, Margi Clarke, Alex Cox, Marc Warren, Fraser Ayres
This nearly unintelligible comedy/drama is based on Thomas Middleton's 17th-century play and uses dialog from that era with modern settings. Years after the poisoning of his fiancee by the Duke (Derek Jacobi), unstable Vindici (Christopher Eccleston) makes plans to extract revenge on not only the Duke but his entire aristocratic family. A dark and violent tale.

Sid and Nancy 1986 R, 111 min. Genre: Drama / Musical
Director: Alex Cox Cast: Gary Oldman, Chloe Webb, Andrew Schofield, David Hayman, Debby Bishop, Tony London, Courtney Love, Xander Berkeley, Sy Richardson, Sandy Baron, Perry Benson, Edward Tudor-Pole, Biff Yeager, Rusty Blitz, John Spaceley
This is the story of punk rocker Sid Vicious (Gary Oldman) and his American girlfriend, Nancy Spungen (Chloe Webb). After his rock group breaks up, heroin addict Vicious decides on a solo career and sets out on a U.S. tour. One morning, Nancy is found dead, and Vicious is arrested. Was her demise intentional, or was it really an accident? It is not a pretty story, but it should give punk rock fans an inside look at their drugged-out heroes.

Director: Alex Cox Cast: Miguel Sandoval, Alex Cox, Robert Wisdom, Isabel Ampudia, Andrew Schofield, John McMartin, Masatoshi Nagase, Tomorowo Taguchi, Ryoko Takizawa, Adrian Henri
Another unusual Alex Cox film comes our way in this fantasy/comedy. Bennie (Miguel Sandoval) and Frank (Alex Cox), one an American art dealer and the other a British art dealer, meet at the dank, Liverpool hotel where they are staying. Unable to get a dinner at the hotel, they take off through the deserted streets in search of a meal. But that's not easy, since everything seems to be closed. They get lost and end up is such places as Tokyo, Hong Kong, and a desert still in search of dinner.
