Captain Leith (Richard Burton) and Major Brand (Curt Jurgens) lead a commando squad in the African Campaign during World War II. There is one hitch: Leith has been having an affair with Brand's wife, Jane (Ruth Roman). While on the campaign, Brand kills Leith and earns a medal for his bravery during the campaign. But, Jane figures out what really happened, and Brand must now pay the price.

Armstrong (John Mills), manages to get eight men out through the gun hatch and the conning tower. The remaining four crewmen must wait, entombed in the submarine, hoping for rescue.

Each of the fathers tries to get the goods on the other one in order to stop the romance. Dated, but mildly funny. A brief appearance by Audrey Hepburn in an early role.
