Seminary student Michal Kovak (Colin O'Donoghue) is a skeptic who is studying exorcism at the Vatican. He believes that psychiatry rather than exorcism is the answer to treating those who are possessed. Father Matthew (Toby Jones) assigns Michael the task of following true believer Father Lucas Trevant (Anthony Hopkins) on his rounds, and, when the evidence shows Michael things that he cannot control, he begins to question his own beliefs.
