Kate Miller (Angie Dickinson) tells her psychiatrist (Michael Caine) that her sexual life with her husband is pathetic, and that afternoon she has sex with a stranger that results in her being slashed to death by a blonde woman. A prostitute, Liz Blake (Nancy Allen), witnesses the murder, but the police suspect that she is guilty of the act. Now, Liz is the next intended victim of the murderess, and she joins forces with Kate's son, Peter (Keith Gordon), to catch the killer.
