When basketball superstar Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) and shy, smart Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Anne Hudgens) are randomly selected to sing karaoke on vacation, they instantly connect. But imagine Troy's surprise when he returns to school to find that Gabriella is the new girl! Being friends or anything more is unheard of as they are in completely opposite cliques. They decide to audition for the school musical, throwing the students of East High into turmoil. Although some enjoy the merging of cliques, the school's main theatrical talents–Sharpay and Ryan Evans (Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel)–are outraged. They will do anything in their power to keep Troy and Gabriella from "their" show. (Review by LW)    1 User Review

This sequel takes place during summer vacation, and Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) is plotting to lure Troy (Zac Efron) away from Gabriella (Vanessa Anne Hudgens) by getting him a job at her parents' country club. There is one major problem with her plan: Troy accepts the job with the provision that the club will also hire those he recommends, and he manages to get Gabriella and the rest of his Wildcat friends hired. But during the summer, Troy does begin to enjoy his new lifestyle and breaks up with Gabriella. Meanwhile, Sharpay's brother Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) makes friends with the Wildcats. The club is getting ready for its annual talent show, and after Sharpay replaces Ryan and asks Troy to sing with her in the show, Ryan forms a group with the Wildcats. Now Troy begins to question whether giving up his friends is worth what he wants. Troy had told Sharpay that he would sing with her under the condition that he could also sing with everyone else. By show's end, the Wildcats, Sharpay, Gabriella, Ryan, and Troy are all on stage singing–together. Music abounds.
