Kilnockie Football Club is a second-tier soccer team in Scotland. The owner, American Peter Cameron (Michael Keaton), threatens to move the team away from the loyal town if the team doesn't win the championship, which it has never done. Coach Gordon McLeod (Robert Duvall) has his hands full with making the team a winner–including dealing with a fading, arrogant star that the team has hired and the star's wife, the estranged daughter of the coach.
