At First Sight 1999 PG-13, 124 min. Genre: Drama
Director: Irwin Winkler Cast: Val Kilmer, Mira Sorvino, Kelly McGillis, Nathan Lane, Steven Weber, Bruce Davison, Ken Howard, Drena DeNiro, Allison Smith
A blind massage therapist, Virgil Adamson (Val Kilmer), falls in love with his client, Amy Benic (Mira Sorvino), and undergoes an operation to restore his sight. This film excels at depicting the effects of blindness: When Virgil first sees following the operation, he cries, "There is something wrong. This can't be seeing...Give me something in my hands." But, the storyline disappoints with its melodramatic unconvincing ending. 1 User Review

| | enlightening | dj 06/05/2007 | | I thought is was good to show how someone that is different can get along in the world with the right support. It shows how a person can love another based on who they really are. It's like reading a book then watching a movie. Somehow the book was better because you are forced to imagine. And your imagination is better than a hollywood director. Anyway, I thought it was touching and moving and explained a lot about the human condition. We are all prejudice in one way or another, based on very little. |
