  Annie Spielberg (Steven's talented sister) co-wrote the good screenplay about 13-year-old Josh (David Moscow) who goes to a fortune-telling machine and makes a wish to be "big." Upon waking the next morning, Josh (now played by Tom Hanks) finds that his wish has come true, and he must now cope with the responsible world of adults until he can become a kid again. Tom Hanks is great and was nominated for an Oscar.

  Recently discharged from the Army, young Brian Flanagan (Tom Cruise) sets out to make a good life for himself in Manhattan. He signs up for business courses and gets a job tending bar. The Aussie barkeeper Doug Couglin (Bryan Brown) takes Brian on as his protege, and they put together an act in which they dance while mixing drinks. They become very popular but then have a falling out. Brian leaves for Jamaica where he meets and falls in love with vacationing New York City waitress Jordan Mooney (Elizabeth Shue). Then, Brian meets New York executive Bonnie (Lisa Banes) who wants Brian for herself, and he becomes her lover. Will Brian wake up in time to make the right decision about who he should spend the rest of his life with?

  Just before Lorraine (Maura Tierney) leaves her husband Taylor Peters (Matthew Broderick) because of his multiple addictions, she sends him to Las Vegas to rescue her 20-year-old niece Amanda (Brittany Snow) who is working as a call girl. Taylor goes on the mission hoping to win back Lorraine. However, once in Vegas, Taylor cannot resist gambling, decides Amanda is happy in her "career," and things do not turn out as he planned.

  Stand-up comedian George Simmons (Adam Sandler) learns that he suffers from a rare form of leukemia and has less than one year to live. Meanwhile, George tries to reunite with his former girlfriend Laura (Leslie Mann), but her husband Clarke (Eric Bana) does not agree to the plan. Now, George learns that his disease has gone into remission, and he reevaluates his lifestyle and decides to find what will really give his life meaning.
