After being admitted to a halfway house for the mentally ill, Dennis "Spider" Cleg (Ralph Fiennes), who suffers from schizophrenia, begins to recall childhood memories involving the murder of his mother (Miranda Richardson). Through flashbacks, the audience witnesses events as seen through the young, mentally disturbed Dennis (Bradley Hall) and begins to realize what really happened to "Spider's" mother.
